Mentor: Jasna Kralj Pavlovec
The student project M 100 _ Exhibition of Slovenian Architect Edo Mihevc was made as a basic research documentation and an overview of possibilities for space design of the first great exhibition of the creative opus of Edo Mihevc in July and August 2011, on the 100 anniversary of his birth in the main hall of The Cultural Centre “Cankarjev dom” in Ljubljana. The exhibition, symposium and the book of Edo Mihevc brought people closer to the figure of the Slovenian architect whose work marked the period before and after the second World War in the architecture of the country. Edo Mihevc name has been lost in history full of politics and Silence. His legacy remains intact on the streets of Slovenia, as the memory of the legacy of a country to find its own place in history, its own identity, and its own architecture.
The project completed in fifty hours. Thirteen students made seven projects. The student mentor developed a step by step research and design approach. The project started with a theoretical frame – research of different projects, evaluation of exhibitions of world known architects or designers and two presentations, “Life and work of Edo Mihevc” by Jasna Kralj Pavlovec and “Exhibition, Different methodological approaches and the history of Exhibitions”by Jože Hudales. Students were encouraged to visit one artistic exhibition in Slovenia and present a critical evaluation of context and space design of the exhibition. The second step was a detail view of the exhibition space, measurements and documentation, spatial analysis and presentation of basic concepts. The third step was the design of models of space inside the public space for a film presentation of Mihevc’s architecture in films. The following step was a selection of materials and colours, graphic design of the exhibition spaces. This step was finished with a student’s presentations and discussions with the head of scenography composition for the films. The fifth and penultim step was the presentation exhibition management. For the final phase, students prepared a film of their projects, 3D models and posters and made a final presentation for a jury.
